Nice People Are Nice

A couple of months ago, we were at a Gwinnett Braves game  and while we were up in the suite a REALLY nice lady came up and offered us and the only other family in the suite tickets to an Atlanta Braves game. I had been a couple of times with my friend Chuck but had always wanted to take my family there, it's an Atlanta institution - and I definitely wanted them to see Turner Field. You can't live in Atlanta without rooting for the Braves even when they suck. We said thank you and YES and a few weeks later we connected to make it happen.
Baseball games are fun but weird things for us. Having to constantly watch the little ones in so much of a crowd can be hectic. I think getting food was the most harrying part. But then, we grabbed our food and headed to our seats.
The end result is snacks and treats of the kind that little people like, and who am I kidding - big people like them too. I mean, ball park hot dogs are the best thing ever.
CHRISTA THAT IS CHEESE NOT MUSTARD ! CHEESE I SAY ! NO MUSTARD !
Baseball is a weird bonding experience. Louis has never played but he likes to go. And the crazy antics they do to keep the kids entertained is both absurd and fun.
So Julia and Louis remembered that the love each other and laughed through most the game as much as they cheered. The twins didn't fuss, and there were treats and music enough to keep them happy too.
It was a bit challenging changing the twins in the hot ass bathrooms at Turner Field. Like omg sweat pouring down my face and having to having them step out of their shoes onto the floor (thank god they were clean floors thank you thank you) because these bigger pullups do not have tear away sides you HAVE to take off your shoes. You become very aware of floor cleanliness when your kids have to put their socked feet on that floor. But we managed and I didn't pass out from heat stroke so that's a plus.

We had such a great time I am so grateful for the gift of the tickets. It was a great day together as a family. And, my son got the hat of our people - which is obviously very important.

Christmas in July

It was Christmas in July at the local minor league team's game yesterday, and our Autism support group SPECTRUM had free tickets for families of Autistic Children so we we headed over despite the clouds. My children took this opportunity to make silly faces while we posed for the Gwinnett Daily Post photographer.

The rain was southwest and far away and I felt pretty good that we could make it at least until the 7th inning stretch for Miles favorite song.

Right about the time we got settled and were comfortable, it began to sprinkle. When we had been saying hello to Santa they told us that there was a suite available for us, in case the boys needed a quiet place. We thought we should maybe check it out in case there was room for us. Turns out - there was only one other family in there!
The game didn't have a big turn out because of the drizzle, which started right when we got to the suite, and continued on through the game. But we didn't care because we were under the awning woooot!

Julia was enamored of the mascot but he had been far away from us when we were down in the stands, so she didn't get to meet him. We heard a knocking on the glass behind us and suddenly...
There he was! He came up and goofed with the kids and I think even the 11 year old thought it was fun. But please don't tell anyone as that wouldn't be cool AT ALL.

The view from above was great, even if the stadium emptied more as the rain continued. It was awesome and we destroyed the Durham Bulls. I mean we ran 8 runs in one inning, that kind of destroyed.
Now we did have to tell Julia to quit yelling GO WHITE GUYS GO which was kind of hilarious, but other than that and nonstop bathroom trips due to copious amounts of soda pop it was a pretty awesome day.

All in all, I think we decided we could get used to this suite life.
Cozy comfort, snacks, and baseball? WITH nice clean and room bathrooms for diaper changes?

Seriously, count me in.

The Magic of The 7th Inning Stretch

The Autism support group was given tickets to see our local minor league ball team play. It just so happened they were playing the husband and my OLD hometown ball team - the Indianapolis Indians. The skies threatened rain, thunder rolled, but nothing happened so we braved the weather, determined to figure out a plan B if the skies opened up on the way.
Minor league games are so much fun. It's such a casual family atmosphere, and I have to admit being swaddled in a cluster of other autism families made me less self conscious than I might have been. I don't get bothered much, but I wasn't sure how the boys would do with 9 innings.
This is the girl child upon learning that Daddy has gone to fetch popcorn. She was very excited about eating popcorn. POPCORN? OUTSIDE? OH REALLY??

I know, it's nuts!

You can see, it was a pretty big deal.

But the magic of our evening came right at the 7th Inning. You see, Miles sings TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALLGAME all the time. It's kind of "his song".  He sings it when he's stressed. He sings it when he's happy. He sings it to tell you he is sad. He sings it all the time. So when they struck up the chord and the crowd started singing - he was confused, he looked around, and then...
...wonder.

It was a great night in the clear blue sky.
