Birthday number 11 arrived for the twins and we celebrated with an awesome dinosaur cake and our Aunties Suzie and Debbie were even here for the fun.
As always they ate their ice cream and ignored the cake but I think they were mostly excited by the light up balloons their daddy got them. They're pretty cool. I came down from getting ready to go out and they had the lights turned off and were playing balloon battles with the aunties.
Our original plan had been to go bowling but between league night at one place and 99c bowling at another, we couldn't get near a lane that would suit all 8 of us, so we'll have to make that a plan for another day. Instead we headed up to Lake Lanier and went to Vinny's for some of my favorite local pizza. I always think of Judy who loved Vinny's when we are there, she recommended it to us.
So another birthday passes and now it's been eleven years since we went from 3 to 5 in one day. It's been a long time, sometimes were harder than others but I love these little guys so much. They have a lot of challenges in front of them, namely middle school, and I'm excited to see how they grow. They've changed and learned so much in elementary school, more than I ever thought that they could.
Here's hoping for another 11 years of growth and improvement for my special little guys.

Double The Birthdays
My big twin boys turned nine this week. With their sister having a birthday just ten days earlier there was a lot of Chuck E Cheese and kid related fun to be be had two weekends in a row. Watching them turn nine was a little sad, because chronology doesn't not tell you anything about how mature they are. It's just how many years they've been alive.
But despite a bit of motherly wistfulness, their birthday was greeted with kisses and excitement and joy. Birthdays are happy days. Even if they don't quite get WHAT a birthday is, they do understand that when we say it's birthdays there will be presents and cake.
They don't like cake but whatever.
One of the bus drivers drew the Minion card as a gift and there were books and gifts that made them both smile and giggle. Plus there were balloons. Who doesn't like balloons?
Sometimes exciting things happen, as we celebrate the three birthdays in April. They're things you might not even notice - but a little boy painting his name at the painting activity is a big deal at our house.
So Happy Birthday Miles and Charlie. I hope your day was special, and you always know that we love you.
Even if you are never the age you actually are.

And There Were Birthdays
It's not the best sort of planning, having your children a few days apart - despite the separation of years, birthdays occurring ten days apart are a financial and logistical clusterfuck.
The twins turned 8, and the girl turned 2 in April. I kid you not, it was like ten days of birthday whirl.
We had parties at home for both birthdays, just us because it is in fact just us, no family or anything nearby but both days were special and fun.
This is where I will admit something kind of weird.
I am sort of used to it JUST being us, after all these years.
I am now a little bit selfish about my family time. Don't get me wrong, I always wish my family and his family were nearby so we could do the family things together. But as far as big random parties full of kids there just to eat my cake and take home my crappy party favors from Oriental Traders? Meh. I dunno. I am sure we'll get back to that some day but there is something so nice and intimate about it just being us. Just us six having the best time celebrating.
For the twins we ended up going to the Children's Museum downtown Atlanta and playing for the day which is always one of our favorites. We hadn't been in almost three years - maybe four. I had forgotten how cute it is.
And yeah Charlie is standing on a step he isn't that tall.
For the girl we went to Chuck E Cheese because TV commercials have given her a new found love for CHUCKEEEEEE as she shouted once we arrived there.
It was a busy ten days. The countdown begins till next April when we'll do it all again.
It's a pain in the ass. But, I wouldn't have it any other way.
