Liberation Day 08 - Or "We've Eliminated Your Position Redux"

365 Days Ago my world got rocked. You see, I had sold my soul to some ruthless, vicious mutherfuckers who paid extraordinarily well. I let my life be ruled by men with little intelligence and serious small cock issues. (I presume they had short cocks by all the preening and posturing that would go on, possibly said cocks were quite large and just didn't work properly).

But they paid well.

I listened to conversations that bordered on illegal, were illegal, unethical and wrong.

Because they paid well.

I watched people lose their jobs, or be driven from their jobs. I watched the construction of the plans for more lives to be ruined, for lies to be told.

Because they paid well.

And after a time, it was my turn in the barrel.

On January 10 2007 my "position was eliminated." My family was thrown into turmoil. My biggest nightmares about no health insurance for my children - about insecurity and financial ruin came crashing down toward me.

So I went home and cried, for weeks.

It is one year later. I hear they held another purge, ruining more lives in the process, while those bastards making the plans held onto their paychecks one more year. People's lives came crashing down on them, again, exactly 365 days later.

And I?

Well, after working a full day at my rewarding and wonderful job where they treat me like a human and never ever scream obscenities, I went out and had a drink with my friend and co-worker Kimberly. Then I came home to my family, to our apartment overlooking the nature walk forest next to our home in the hills above Atlanta.
And I am happy. And relieved. And certain that I will never, ever work for rotten people just for a paycheck again.

To all my friends and enemies who got your world rocked yesterday and today (my Liberation Day 1st Anniversary)........I salute you. It gets better, I promise. You have no idea how happy you are going to be 365 days from now. And hell by then,we might have more people to tell that it's going to be okay. Hell I'm pretty sure that's 100% true - I think I've cracked their code!

And never, ever forget.......

...........YES They are Real!

Don't forget the Dirty Sanchez Expansion Set

Sometimes you should carefully consider your NAME.
Because I'm sure it is a fun game, but I just can't invite the crew over to play MY CORNHOLE.

Or I could, but I think they might be disappointed when I pulled out this.

For a variation maybe you can add a Hot Karl or a Rusty Trombone?

It's too early, isn't it, for that kind of talk.......

This is the day, that despite my tired sore feet, he asked me if I would be his Cinderelli.

The answer is still yes.

It's Not ALL Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness Around Here

I would not go so far as to say that we're in a "When Life Gives You Lemons Make Lemonade" sort of place, but we did get out and about this past weekend.
We went to one of our favorite places, the Fernbank Museum.
Our first stop was a meeting of poison dart frogs. The pic is a litle foggy because of all the humidity in their terrarium. Poison dart frogs are remarkably pretty. You'd be tempted to pick one up to check it out.
And then you would drop dead. Which would suck.
The exhibit was was getting ready to end to the Frog stuff was all on sale, so the kids all got Frog toys with which to beat one another.
We'll look forward to lots of smacks in the face by these I'm sure. Currently I've been enjoying learning what small animal toys fit into the frog mouths, as is enacted by Lil Satchmo at every turn.
One of my favorite views inside the Fernbank is this.......looking up into the ribcage of the Argentinasaurus.
I think that if this thing was ever walking over you, you'd just look up like this and think OH FUCK.
I love the Ferbank with it's Dinosaurs and it's lovely exhibits, it's breathtaking and relaxing to be there. There is a nice play area, where even little boys who like to dance in front of mirrors can find something to do!

After our fun day at the museum we cruised down to the southside of Atlanta to an AWESOME restaurant.......the BARBECUE KITCHEN! It's a meat and three style diner with absolutely rockin' homestyle entrees, all the vegetables you can eat and dessert comes with your dinner if you choose the meat and two.

Miscarriage in the Modern Age

When I was little, I passionately read all of the Little House on the Prairie books. I even read the later ones, THE FIRST FOUR YEARS , which most girls I knew didn't. I loved them, and the stories of a family growing and changing.
There was one part of the story I'll never forget.
Laura has a miscarriage. She didn't know she was pregnant.....and suddenly she's stricken with the pain and loss of miscarriage. She says of it, that she is surprised how easy it is to have a baby, and how hard it is not to have one.
Who knew a pioneer woman would nail it so concisely?
I found out I was pregnant over two weeks ago, when a test showed me a purple plus sign.
It explained the nausea, the ickiness, the overwhelming sleepiness. And my breasts started to hurt.
For days, my husband and I were surrounded with joy - because another little beam of light was coming to live with us and if nothing else we are baby people. We adore them. Despite the stress and the chaos and the financial burden, nothing fills our hearts like our children.
It was good news.
I told my family, breaking the "tell no one before 12 weeks" rule. I made a doctor appt.

And I was ready. Plans were starting to form and the idea of a bassinette in my room felt very real.

The Saturday before Christmas shopping I stumbled to the bathroom at 6am to pee, and blood stained my toilet paper.

Spotting.

I crawled into bed and told my husband I had lost the baby. He reassured me, he held me, reminded me I spotted with the other two pregnancies at this time. I remembered - Implantation - was that it?

So we waited.

And the spotting continued. I called the doctor, and they put me on a hormone to help "prolong" the pregnancy until I could be seen after Christmas. The Doctor on Call using phrases like "at your age" which made me want to THROTTLE HIM. "FUCK YOU MADONNA HAD BABIES LATE FUCK YOU - PEOPLE HAVE BABIES LATER NOW DON'T YOU DARE SAY I AM TOO OLD TO HAVE BABIES YOU FUCK WAD!"

Sigh.

And the spotting continued.

And got worse.

So I went to the doctor and they did a urine test. Which was positive. But, they saw nothing on the ultrasound. So we did a blood test. To test the HGH. The plan, as stated, was that if the HCG was positive (which he anticipated) that I would then come back in a few days for a second blood test to see if the HGH was going up or down. If it went down, I was miscarrying.

So I went to work.

And started to bleed for real.

Back in the day, your friends came over. They brought casseroles, and your mom could take your kids for a few days. You could grieve with your spouse over your loss. During a modern miscarriage I sat and delivered developmental feedback to employees, made schedule changes for '08. Planned for the future.

Even as one possible future leaked out onto a maxipad in my panty hose.

Over the past weekend, everything concluded itself, as my body expelled the human it tried to grow along with everything else in my uterus.

Laura Ingalls Wilder was right.
It is much easier to HAVE a baby than to not have one.
