The Karate Connection

My oldest boy and I are zipping along the winding, hilly road on the way to his school the other day when he asks:

"Mom, babies don't know karate do they?"

I pause - then respond,"Umm, no. No they don't."

He smiles,"Then you can make them do whatever you want, can't you?"

Me,"Yes. Yes you can."

Because it's the lack of KARATE that's holding them back.

Clearly, if babies knew karate, they could do whatever they wanted and thwart your evil plans to dominate them. That's why all young boys go through a Power Ranger phase. Their brains have matured by the age of 5 to the point where they understand this simple truth.

I remember a couple of little 5-year-old boys in the back of the car on the way to the Indy Zoo, asking quite seriously and in hushed tones if the other knew karate. They were clearly plotting an overthrow if the Zoo trip didn't go well.

Hi, just wanted to say that I think your blog is absolutely beyond wonderful and I'm reading you cover to cover, so to speak!

Thank you, Suzy (new follower)

You can make them do anything you want except: poop in the toilet, sleep through the night, stop crying, pee in the toilet, walk somewhere, feed themselves... and then they get older and defy you openly.
